My music would be very different had I not met him. He touched so many lives….

Our Beloved, Singular, Wonderful Maestro William (Bill) McGlaughlin died July 21, 2026 in his home— NYC. 

His wife and partner of 35 years Karrin Allyson was with him til the end. He was 82 years old. 
Bill was born in Philadelphia and the oldest of 6 kids… He loved his and Karrin’s family very much. 
His accomplishments are too many to mention but highlites include: 
La Salle College High School (where he often said he was “a fledgling who couldn’t conduct for students who couldn’t play!”) then onto Temple University.

He became trombonist with Philly Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony. 
He was Conductor of several orchestras; St Paul Chamber, Eugene Symphony, SF Chamber Orchestra, and 12- year tenure with the Kansas City Symphony. 
He was also a wonderful composer of many works and songs. 
His Peabody Award Winning Radio show “St Paul Sunday Morning” eventually lead to his still running / International “Exploring Music with Bill McGlaughlin”. Bill makes music FUN, interesting, and indeed exploratory. His radio & interview style is totally unique… he said;  “I just imagine I’m talking to my father” 

He has 2 children; daughter Kathleen McGlaughlin and son Bill (Timothy) McGlaughlin  …. And grandson Beryl Lovejoy McGlaughlin
His siblings are: Jake McGlaughlin, Kathleen Gillespie, Dick McGlaughlin, Tom McGlaughlin and Ed McGlaughlin
His parents; Catharine Hogan and William McGlaughlin Sr. 
Aside from being obsessed by MUSIC, he loved the Shore (SIC) being with his family, going to Karrin’s shows, hiking, movies, and … READING, reading, reading… and writing ! 
He was a polymath… if you wanted to know anything about anything – Bill was your man. 
His humanity, curiosity, generosity of Spirit, beautiful eyes and smile with that dimple — will live on in each one of us.

That was Bill in a nutshell. Anyone who was in his presence truly felt that special ’thing’ about Bill.
